SURFACE AESTHETICS

Each piece of timber holds its own unique aesthetic appeal. Natural variations occur subject to the timber's personal history, age, original use or species.  Rustic personality traits can add to the charm of the final product with bolt holes, tool marks and weather cracks. Gum veins and pockets, sap marks, fiddleback features and rare birdseye grains add exquisite detail to mother nature's finest jewellery. Surface finishes can be manipulated to your specification depending on whether you are looking for a clean or rustic finish.

COLOUR VARIATION

Designer timbers mean no two pieces are the same.  Distinct markings, colour hues and thicknesses mean your design or construction project will feature materials distinct with personality. This is something utterly un-replicable by man made products.  Cream, Red and Brown hues dominate the spectrum when it comes to timber colourisation, however all timbers can vary slightly in colour, grain and natural features from samples provided. Nullarbor's qualified joiners match colours and grain to the best of their ability to ensure client satisfaction.

Timber species are available in both recycled and sustainable (new) timber and they include but not limited to;

Red Gum,  Ironbark, Spotted Gum, Messmate, Blue Gum, Oregon, Blackbutt, Jarrah, Brush Box, Karri, Victorian Ash, Tasmanian Oak.

We are most happy to provide samples, inspections and consultations.

MOISTURE CONTENT

Moisture content may not be a particularly romantic aspect of timber re-use, but is perhaps the most important factor in the long term sustenance of your product. To guarantee longevity and minimal movement and warping of timbers once placed in a project, Nullarbor Timber kiln dry all their timbers to Australian Standards.

KILN DRYING

While natural seasoning is always preferred, we do undertake kiln-drying processes if required to lock in quality and reduce post-placement headaches. Timber decay, swelling and shrinkage is to be avoided at all costs. Trust us when it comes to expert advice on seasoning, drying and preparing your Nullarbor product for placement in a site that may come with specific moisture-control requirements.

DURABILITY & STRENGTH RATINGS

The durability of your timber will be based on its age, origin, seasoning status and the degree to which it has been exposed to harsh conditions. Nullarbor Timber offers myriad class 1 and class 2 timber products.  Requisite strength ratings ranging from F17 to F27 are available with F14 through to F34 and higher available upon request. Talk to us about your needs.

SAMPLES & ON-SITE INSPECTIONS

Nullarbor Timber are most happy to provide you and your team with samples of specific species and finishes of timber direct to your office at our own cost. For larger projects, we encourage on site inspections of our range at our Moama Processing Plant or Melbourne Showroom in Williamstown.

CARING FOR YOUR TIMBER

Picture

DECKING CARE

Because decking is often subjected to the elements, such as sun, rain and wind, it is important you look after your decking. Seasoning your decking with a good decking oil is vital to ensuring your  timber decking stands the rigours of Australia’s harsh climate.

FLOORING CARE

When cleaning your timber floor, we recommend the use of warm water, slightly diluted with a small amount reputable wooden floor cleaner to ensure your floors maintain their sheen and quality over time and wear.

LARGER STRUCTURAL TIMBERS

Care for your durable, outdoor or indoor structural timbers vary from species to species. It is also variant in regards to the elements to which they are exposed, seasonally. Please note that all timbers are living, breathing products and part of their charm is their ability to age gracefully, yet welcome renewal via time-honoured methods after decades of standing. No matter how far down the line, you're always welcome to contact us should you require guidance in this area.
